Using Search Engines

One of the advantages to having a computer or similar device that connects to the Internet is that you can use it located web sites and pages that contain focused information on about any given subject.

Some of the top Search Engines are Google, HotBot, AltaVista, Ask Jeeves, Teoma, Lycos, WebCrawler, Yahoo, MSN, and AOL Find to name a few of the many that are available.

To help you here are a few tips to use when using Search Engines.

To Find An Exact Phrase = “grandparents raising grandchildren”

Will locate sites that use that exact phrase

Required words = grandparents mail

Will locate sites that contain the required words

Excluded Words = grandparents –mail  or grandparents ANDNOT mail

Will locate sites that contain the word grandparents but not mail

Wildcards = grandp*

Will locate sites that contain grandp such as grandpa, grandparents, etc
