By Grandpa Chuck

One of the advantages to having a computer or similar device that connects to the Internet is that you can use to not only keep in touch with family and friends but also to receive and send messages from and to a variety of sources.

Let’s talk about Web Based Email and why you should have an account other than the email address you received when you first signed up for your Internet Service.

The service you pay for each month is called an “ISP” or Internet Service Provider. They give your connection to the Internet.  ISPs are services such as AOL, Earthlink, WebTV, and your local hometown Internet provider.

The purpose in having an email account with a FREE service such as Yahoo!, MSN, MyWay, etc is to not clutter up your ISP email box with special interest mail other than from friends and family.

Examples of when to use your ISP email address is for family, friends, companies you do business with such as banks, and other such messages that you receive that you consider important.

Examples of when to use a FREE email service is contests, sweepstakes, free offers, message groups, online friends, chat rooms, and other such messages that you receive where you want to protect your privacy online.
